Stray Cats do the 3 Loch Challenge 2019

Stray Cats 8th June 2019 This event has closed

Story

The Stray Cats Challenges started in 2014 in memory of our friend, Linsay Killeen.  The Stray Cats group now exceeds 40 members and we all know someone who have used the amazing services of the Hospice. Each year a different challenge is set and different members take part due to their interests in the challenge never mind ability.

This year's Challenge participants are:  Janice & Craig Ralston, Rosie Murray, James McCairns, Stewart Barr, Fiona Aptomos ,Wullie Clark and David McKerlie. Halina Rifai will be our mobile support on the day.

We are lucky to have Chris MacDonald as our mentor for our training and who will join us on the day of the big walk.

So far over the years we have completed sober October, cycled 22 miles to Loch Lomond, 56 miles around Arran, rowed Loch Lomond challenge and walked the West Highland Way,  in total we have raised £10,000. Please help us to keep increasing this amount.

The challenge is here and we’ve finished all the training. The predicted weather is wet and windy so here goes for an extremely soggy walk.

6th Training day - our mentor took the day off today to do another challenge but left strict instructions we should do a distance walk.............only 3 out this week as the boys decided on a couch day😂😂😂 We choose to do the Kelvin Way which turned out to be a very uninspiring walk. So no pictures of views or hills. Just Dobbies garden centre in Milngavie where we stopped for lunch - completed 22 miles! 6th Training day - our mentor took the day off today to do another challenge but left strict instructions we should do a distance walk.....

5th Training day - Goatfell in Arran. A drizzly day and low cloud but still a beautiful walk. Just so happened we picked the same day as the mountain run so it was a busy mountain. Unfortunately Wullie missed the boat😉

4TH Training Day - Kilpatrick Hills amble - 29km/18 miles with 1062m ascent in 8 hours 20 minutes. You don't need big hills to have lots of fun on a big day out with great views.

3rd Training day was tough as we took on the mighty Beinn Bhuidhe - 21.5km, 955m. We’ve had a few of the team drop out to to illness and injury but we will recruit some new ones soon.

Friday 19th April and we set out from Drymen to Conic Hill. Chris’s knowledge is brilliant and there’s not much he doesn’t know about the hills and mountains of Scotland. A great walk where we seen all sorts of wild life including deer running along the horizon then clearing a fence with ease.
